Russo v. Griffin raised the standard of care for practicing lawyers in Vermont.

Previously, Vermont lawyers had a duty to meet only the standard of care exercised by reasonably competent lawyers in the same Vermont locality.

In Russo v. Griffin, the Vermont Supreme Court adopted a state-wide standard, holding lawyers to the standard of care exercised by reasonably competent lawyers throughout Vermont.

Although the court did not impose the national standard, the decision was nonetheless a victory for our client, and became the leading case on legal malpractice in Vermont.
